Hello, How many worlds comprised the Second Republic? I've heard some say it was around 1000, other say 400. I could have sworn there was a line somewhere that said the Republic spread for 20 jumps in every direction from Byzantium Secudus. What do you think? TLK |

Pilgrim TLK, The Second Republic included more than 1000 worlds ( including the Star Nation and the Caliphat ), but thanks to the Data Purge following the Devestiture, only 400 were refered by Orthodoxy historians. These 400 worlds were in fact the nexus of the Second Republic ... I think that the Data Purge had been made by high members of the Senate and/or high ranking admirals in order to keep the far away colonies out of Church/Nobility grasp. Mayhaps hoping that these "safe worlds" could be able in the future to reclaim the Known Worlds in the name of a Third Republic. ;) That's the actual plot line of my new campaign .... ;)

StGeorges,
Now there is a cool way to run it :) I was having my group go through lost worlds and research stations on their way though my main plot, but I could just see the remnant worlds trying to keep the core fractured to give them time...

Schu, I created a whole hidden Republic in the heart of the Known Worlds ( with some extensions in Vau Space ) ... i'm still working on it ( i hope it'll please someone called Alustro ... ;)

StGeorges,
So when do we get to see it?
One thing I will note, it is my belief that with the way the jumpgates work, any "lost" worlds can be neighbors of any known world. And the best part is that you could use the gates to come and go, and noone would be the wiser if you are careful about what you carry...

Schu, For the moment, all the material ( about 400 pages ) it is only in french ... and its name is De Nova Res Publica ( About the New Republic for englishspoken people ). In fact, i hope to submit it to Alustro in order to have a professional point of view ..but i'll post it in the future ( read after i definitively finished and translated it ).

Fair enough. Good luck with the official response. And don't lose patience with them if they take their time responding, they are a bit busy :)

TLK,
I tend to take a bit of license with the lost worlds. I feel they vastly outnumber the known worlds, but there are also routes that the second republic did not know... Or that they did not disseminate. Which just make the universe that much bigger. But it is usually my take that each gate in the Known Worlds has routes that are either forgotten or unknown to the Known Worlds. Then again, I was planning to have a "mishap" as they transmitted their key for a jump and end up elsewhere. For that matter one of the PC's had an AI that was using the ship to look for where a key it had would work, each time they came to a jump, the system would transmit the AI's key first to see if it would work, then transmit the intended one. The PC's had not caught on yet to what was going on before the game ended.

st georges, I know you're probably already aware of this, but I've got several star maps you might want to integrate.

I would be very appreciative to look at your work (I can somewhat speak french) as I would love to integrate it into my website. (EVIL GRIN) |

Mithra_S,
I would also like a starmap if possible, I will be sending you an appropriately titled email soon. Thanks in advance.
Luxifer,
Just as a note, I know you are updating you site now, the http://www.geniocracy.net/renaissance/fsimages/humanjumpweb.jpg link does not appear to be functional. If I notice anymore I will communicate through email, I just figured I'd post it here since we were on the topic.

indeed I would think that the Phavian Institute should have predicted what was going to happen and would have taken some countermesure (but maybe it's just that I make the equation Phavian Istitute = Foundation) |

I agree with the Phavian/Foundation connection. If I remember right, they even predicted the fall of the Republic (psychohistory? or just precognition)? TLK |

A few years ago I created a jumpweb map for my online game, combining the maps in the corebook, Star Crusade, and Hegemony. It is located here, if anyone wants to look at it:
http://fadingsuns.org/jumpweb_frame.html
The routes indicated on the map are pretty much canon, supplemented by a few inferences on my part. The only exception is the jumproute to Vargo, linked between Tethys and Egg: that world is the setting for my online game. Ignore that one, and the rest is probably pretty accurate. [:)]
One curious thing I noticed when I combined the Known Worlds and Vau maps is the relative proximity of Yathrib and S'rib (in the sense that they occupy roughly the same area of the jumpweb, rather than their spatial coordinates).
The description of S'rib in Hegemony doesn't sound much like the world where the Prophet received his vision of the Celetial Sun, but it is an interesting coincidence that their names sound so similar, no? [:)] |

Zakhayelos, To my mind, Yathrib and S'rib are different names for the same world ... Is not in S'rib system that the First Contact between the Vau and the Symbiots take place?? ;) I suppose that the Vau annexed Yathrib/S'rib just after the Sathraïst Uprising ( read when they closed the Jumpgate from Aylon to Yathrib ), in order to study more carefully the world of the Holy Vision and mayhaps to keep it until the Mandarin decide to return it to Mankind ...

I make S'rib and Yathrib very seperate. Considering that closeness on a jumpweb is a completely arbitrary representation by the people who use the jumpweb. I've been able to draw a jumpweb that properly links as canon and it had Yathrib and S'rib very far away from each other. That's not even including the idea that we're only seeing it in 2D. I'm sure a 3D map would be far more accurate to represent the jumpweb.
